Introduction

  • Phoenix Retreat is a 2 bedroom Disabled Access Bungalow comprising of level access inside and out. An Overhead hoist, Electric bed with pressure relieving mattress and Nimbus 3 Airwave mattress, Orthopaedic bed, Wet room, Recliner chair, Manual hoist (max 130 Kg), Electric wheelchair, Manual wheelchair and more please see equipment list on web site. Please list on booking form which equipment is required.

  • Guests can contact us by phone and email; information about Phoenix Retreat is also available in Large Print on our website
  • Our Accessibility Statement is available on our website
  • Information about public transport, accessibility, and distance to nearest town is available in our information pack, and could be sent to guest prior to them coming on holiday
  • Information about accessible taxis is available in our information pack, and could be sent to guest prior to them coming on holiday
  • Guests could pre-order their provisions which would be ready in the bungalow for their arrival
  • Hopefully we have all the equipment that our guests would require, however should a guest require the hire of a piece of equipment that we didn't have then we would hire the equipment and have it ready in the bungalow for arrival, and charge for accordingly
  • A list of Radar toilets are in the information pack in the bungalow
  • The bungalow is suitable for guests with disabilities who are accompanied by an able bodied traveller

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • The bungalow has its own paved drive with drop down kerb, which could accommodate 2 vehicles; there would be rear access to the vehicle once it is parked
  • There is security lighting on the side of the garage, giving light when parking and getting out of the vehicle
  • The drive is level access right up to the bungalow door

Main Entrance

  • The bungalow is accessed through the front door, which is 860mm wide and opens inwards to the right into the porch which is tiled. There is a maximum of 15mm threshold
  • The bungalow has level access inside and out, maximum of 15mm thresholds throughout the bungalow, hand rails in the wet room
  • The lighting in the bungalow comprises of: Outside front of bungalow: security light, Outside back: outside light x 2 on or off, Porch: 4 bar spotlight, Living room: 2 ceiling lights with glass shades, 2 wall up lights with glass shades, all controlled by dimmer switches, 1 standard light with bendable reading lamp attached, 1 touchable lamp, Bedroom 1: Main ceiling light, 2 touchable bedside lamps, Bedroom 2: 1 main ceiling light, 2 bedside touchable lamps, Kitchen: 4 bar spotlight, 3 plate spot light, Sun lounge: Ceiling shade, Bathroom: 3 ceiling spot lights, Wet room: encased ceiling light,
  • Guests will be greeted by one of the owners of the bungalow on arrival, a tour of bungalow will be given and any questions answered
  • If your arrival will be at night, the owner will ensure that suitable lighting is on; the outside security lighting will come on automatically. The entrance threshold is a maximum of 15mm
  • The information pack is in size 16 font
  • The outside bungalow name sign is embossed with a different colour name to the background
  • There is colour contrast between doors and door frames

Living Room/Diner

  • The living area comprises of a large corner bed settee, a dining table and chairs, an electric recliner chair which raises and lowers, there is a overhead hoist in the lounge for transfer from chair to chair, all plug sockets and light switches are 1000 mm from the floor for ease of access, door width are 820mm clear space. There is a 42inch flat screen TV with teletext and subtitles. Radiators and an electric fire

Laundry

  • A washer/dryer is provided, it is a front loaded washing machine, it is located under the worktop of the kitchen which has level access. An outside rotary line is also provided. Washing powder and pegs are available. Operating instructions are available in size 16 font in the information pack

Shops

  • Phoenix Retreat is approximately a 15 minute walk and a 5 minute drive to the village of Braunton, which is well serviced with shops, the main Co-operative and Tesco store both have disabled access
  • Groceries can be ordered and left in the bungalow ready for your arrival
  • An electric wheelchair is available for use to get around the village; it has a 12 cm elevation to raise the chair making it easier to reach top shelves

Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

  • The bungalow has 2 bedrooms
  • Bedroom 1 comprises of: An overhead hoist which can take a maximum weight of 130kg (20 stone), the track goes right across the room, so could access both beds, there is an electric bed with a pressure mattress and a nimbus 3 airwaves mattress with access to both sides of the bed, an orthopaedic bed. Vibrating alarm clock, 32inch flat screen TV with remote control, teletext and subtitles. The bedroom has unobstructed door space of 1420mm, sliding doors, off from the lounge with level access. The floor covering is carpet. The lighting consists of a ceiling light, 2 bedside touch lamps. There is a built in wardrobe, a full length mirror, dressing table with mirror and accessible hair dryer, bedside tables. A trolley table available for use
  • Bedroom 2 comprises of: 2 single divan zip and link beds which make up to a double bed, the floor is carpeted, there is a wardrobe, chest of drawers and 2 bedside cabinets, ceiling light and 2 bedside touch lamps, this room cannot be accessed by a wheelchair
  • There is additional sleeping for 2 more guests in the very comfortable bed/settee.

Bathroom, Wet-Room

  • The bungalow has a wet room and a bathroom
  • Wet room comprises of: A level entry shower with attached shower head and lower detachable shower head. The temperature of shower and sink is thermostatically controlled and can only reach a maximum of 41c, a fixed shower chair and a commode shower chair with wheels, hand rail next to shower, the wet room has 1200mm unobstructed turning space. The taps are lever and there is clear under space for a wheelchair under the sink, with all pipe work insulated. The flooring is non slip and there is under floor heating to aid quick drying of the floor and gives warmth to the wet room. The door is sliding giving maximum space in the wet room
  • The shower is accessed direct from the entrance to the wet room
  • The toilet has transfer space, a seat raiser is available, and there is a pull down rail to assist support
  • The tiles are natural give warmth and not glare
  • The dimensions of the wet room are: 2.1m x 1.65m
  • Bathroom comprises of: Luxury whirlpool/spa bath, with powered bath seat if required, tiled walls and floor with under floor heating, sink and toilet, raised toilet seat available if required, the door is 820mm wide and opens inwards to the right, the taps are lever. The bathroom dimensions are: 2.95m x 1.42m. The bathroom is not suitable for wheelchair use

Self-Catering Kitchen

  • The kitchen is accessed with ease, it is located off from the living room, with 860mm width opening
  • All kitchen equipment is provided for guests self catering, along with some disabled equipment to include bendable cutlery, plate guard, non slip table mat, nose cup beaker, for guests who are unable to tilt their head back
  • In the information pack is a list of instructions for using the equipment
  • All taps are leaver taps
  • There is a designated worktop which is at wheelchair height 770mm
  • There is an electric cooker, microwave, available for cooking
  • Crockery and cookware is stored in the low level cupboards
  • The lino is non slip
  • The lighting comprises of a 4 bar spotlight and a 3 plate spotlight
  • The work surfaces and tiles are black and we have accessorised with red, with the walls being pale
  • There is a fridge/freezer in the corner of the kitchen next to the disabled access worktop, the fridge section is at the bottom giving ease to holiday maker in a wheelchair opening the door and accessing food from the fridge

Garden/Sun Room

  • The bungalow comprises of a paved drive way, with a lawn level to the drive which could give a guest in a wheelchair access onto the lawn from the drive, at the rear of the bungalow is a level decking which is accessed through the sun room doors which give 1700mm clear space, there is a bench and patio furniture for seating, on from the decking is a lawned garden and rotary washing line

Additional Information

  • Guests can gain evacuation in the event of a fire from the front door or the patio doors leading out to the garden, there is a fire extinguisher, and fire blanket in the bungalow, along with smoke alarms
  • All equipment available is provided in the cost of the holiday, and serviced regularly
  • Service dogs are automatically accepted, and other pets are accepted by arrangement, all pets must follow the house rules set out in our terms and conditions
  • Smoking is allowed outside the property
  • Generally all mobile networks receive a good signal at the bungalow; a mobile phone is available for guests to use in an emergency if they do not have access to their own
  • Provisions are made for pets, water bowls, food bowls
  • Information pack is in size 16 font
  • The disabled access bedroom is off from the lounge with sliding doors giving plenty of access, and enabling carer to keep a safety check on guest with disabilities from the lounge if required
  • There is a fridge/freezer in the kitchen where medication and special dietary food could be stored
  • There is an emergency number available for guests to contact the owners, along with emergency doctors, hospital, vets etc... The numbers are on the wall in the hall of the bungalow and in the information pack in the bungalow.

  • The bungalow is let from Saturday to Saturday, Arrival time from 2.00pm and Departure time 10.00am. The bungalow is open all year round.

Local Carers

  • Phoenix Retreat is owned and managed by Phoenix Care At Home Ltd; we are a small domiciliary care agency rated excellent through CQC (Care Quality Commission). We can provide a care service to guests staying on holiday in our bungalow. This would be charged for separately from the holiday accommodation. Please contact us to find out how this service works. Local Equipment Hire Companies

  • Local equipment hire companies: All equipment provided is included in the cost of your holiday, (please see equipment list on our web site). If we do not have a particular piece of equipment that you require, then we will organise the hire of the equipment which we will have ready in the bungalow for your arrival. The cost will be charged to you accordingly. (We hope that we already have an extensive supply of equipment that hiring in extra will be unnecessary).

Future Plans

  • Phoenix Retreat is a newly adapted disabled access bungalow therefore at present we have no plans for alterations, however we will act on any feedback we receive from our guests and make any changes as required .
